You know what they say…you can’t have just one…

Justin and Nicky were both born in 2000, Justin on 9/11 and Nicky on 12/25.  We brought Justin home just before Thanksgiving in that year.

Justin was such an easy boy to live with – always a perfect angel and I’m truly serious when I say this.  We had no second thoughts about wanting a second whippet!

Early in the Spring of 2001 we heard from Bo and our good friend, Barb Wayne, about a litter being bred in Japan by Mrs. Fukie Yoshimoto.

Mrs. Yoshimoto had imported Whispa (SBIS/BIS Int. Ch. Bohem Circus Pony) to Japan from Bohem Whippets.  Whispa’s mom is the fabulous Annie (SBIS Ch. Bohem All About Eve ROMX) and Annie is also Justin’s mother.  She was breeding  Whispa to Joya (BIS Aust/JKC Ch. Statuesque Traces of Joy).  Joya had been imported by Mrs. Yoshimoto from Frank and Lee Pieterse of Australia.

When I heard Barb would be traveling to Japan to bring back a bitch for herself I asked Mrs. Yoshimoto if it would be possible to have Barb bring back a boy for us.  She consented and it was the beginning of another wonderful friendship, this one for the last seven years with Mrs. Yoshimoto,

Nicky flew with Barb to her home and spent a few days recuperating from the long flight from Japan.  Barb then put him on a non-stop flight to Charlotte.  Ivan and I were living in FL at the time and drove up to get our little Nicky.  I can even remember the date…June 10, 2001.  Nicky was 5-1/2 months old.  I remember anxiously waiting in the cargo office for them to bring Nicky from the plane.  You can imagine how confused he must have been to be greeted by yet another stranger.  I’ll never forget the beautiful face I saw when he came out of the crate in that office and my eyes were filled with tears.

Justin happily welcomed his new playmate and best buddy.  The two of them have been inseparable ever since and there has never been a cross word between them even when bitches have come to our house to be bred by Justin.  It’s a testament to the outstanding temperament of Bohem whippets!

Nicky began his show career about 3 weeks later in the 6-9 month puppy class.  His first weekend shown he was RWD on Saturday and on Sunday was WD and BOS over a special for 2 points, Best Puppy and 2nd in the Puppy Hound Group.

He was award many points from the puppy class and won his first major from the 12-18 month class again by going BOS over two specials.

Nicky finished his championship his first weekend in the Open class.  It was the same AWC supported 3-day weekend in which Justin finished his championship.

Justin was BW on the Friday for a 4-point major (his 3rd major) and he finished with a 5-point major on Saturday by going BW and BOS.  Nicky had placed 4th in Open both days with Matthew Downing handling.

On Sunday, I moved Justin up and showed Nicky in Open.  He was WD for a 5-point major to finish and Justin was BOS!  It was a weekend to remember.

Nicky has enjoyed racing in both WRA and NOTRA, he has an AKC 5-point major in very limited AKC coursing and although he has 110 points in ASFA coursing, he lacks one 2nd place for his FCh.

Both boys continue to give us great joy, companionship and love and we thank Bo Bengtson and Mrs. Fukie Yoshimoto for allowing Justin and Nicky to make their homes with us.
